In this video Senior Application Engineer Chet White explains why some industrial fans require vibration isolators. Essentially, vibration isolators protect the area around the fan from the adverse effects of vibration. If there’s insufficient mass in or around the foundation of the fan, the vibration isolators can minimize the impact that fan vibrations have on the area where the fan sits, like on a mezzanine or a rooftop. High vibration levels can shorten fan life or cause catastrophic fan failure, something every user wishes to avoid.
The vibration isolators mount inside of the height saving brackets at the base of the fan, as illustrated in the video. At installation, it’s critical to ensure there’s no rigid connection at the inlet or outlet. Flex connectors provide a flexible connection between the outlet and the duct work and also the inlet and the duct work, allowing the fan to “float” a little bit on the isolators without adversely affecting the ductwork.
